Kaitlyn Plastino - Bat Monitoring Technician

Kaitlyn is a graduate student from the University of Manitoba pursuing a master's degree in Natural Resources Management. For her master's thesis, she is partnering with a First Nation in northern British Columbia to devise a plan that incorporates culturally important plants for a roadside revegetation project. She also holds a B.Sc. in Environmental Science from Algoma University where she studied the vocalisation patterns of Connecticut Warblers for her undergraduate honours thesis. Born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Kaitlyn is passionate about protecting the lands and waters of the Algoma region, and looks forward to starting as a Bat Monitoring Technician with the Central Algoma Land Trust this summer. She brings with her a variety of experiences from past roles working with Ontario Parks and the Ornithology Vocalisation Ecology Network (OVEN) lab at Algoma University.

Kaitlyn will be working on our Bat Monitoring and Education Program, including installing and maintaining bat recorders, analyzing the collected data, developing reports, and engaging and educating the local community about bats.

Maggie Cameron - Assistant Field Technician

Maggie is currently a student at Sault College in the Fish & Wildlife Conservation Technician program, with previous experience in a Bachelor's of Environmental Science at Trent University. She is a part of the Mohawk First Nation and strives to integrate traditional knowledges in the field and conservation work. Passionate about endangered species, protecting natural environments, and biodiversity, she looks forward to working with the Central Algoma Land Trust this summer to aid in their conservation efforts.

Johnna Lepore - Assistant Field Technician

Johnna is a recent graduate from the Natural Environment Technician - Conservation and Management program at Sault College. With a diverse background in healthcare, their passion for conservation and sustainability is interconnected with human centric values including food security and disease control. Johnna is currently participating in the Little Forests SSM through the Sault Ste Marie Climate Hub to incorporate green spaces with a diverse selection of native species as a restoration method. With a passion for both learning and protecting the natural environment, they are excited to work with Central Algoma Land Trust and their talented team.

Maggie and Johnna will be monitoring our protected areas for disturbance and ecological health, conducting wildlife surveys, maintaining our hiking trails, and supporting our guided tours, outreach events, and educational programs.

Welcome aboard, Kaitlyn, Maggie, and Johnna!
