The Central Algoma Land Trust hosts events throughout the year to engage the community and promote land stewardship. All events are open to the public unless otherwise specified, but membership is encouraged to help advance conservation efforts within the Central Algoma region.
Guided Snowshoe at the Historic Mines Recreational Trails
Join us for a guided snowshoe at the Historic Mines Recreational Trails in Bruce Mines! There are several kilometres worth of trails and it takes approximately 2 hours to complete the entire system.

World Migratory Bird Day at Fort St. Joseph
This year marks the fourth annual World Migratory Bird Day at Fort St. Joseph! This event is made possible by a partnership between Parks Canada and the Central Algoma Land Trust to have Fort St. Joseph open to vehicle traffic so birders and nature enthusiasts can experience the wonders of spring bird migration.
25th Anniversary Celebration
2026 marks the 25th anniversary of The Kensington Conservancy/Central Algoma Land Trust’s incorporation! We are currently planning a celebration, so we are encouraging anyone who is interested in attending to save the date. More details and tickets sales will be announced in the coming months.
Fall Migratory Bird Day at Fort St. Joseph
This year marks the third annual Fall Migratory Bird Day at Fort St. Joseph! This event is made possible by a partnership between Parks Canada and the Central Algoma Land Trust to have Fort St. Joseph open to vehicle traffic so birders and nature enthusiasts can experience the wonders of fall bird migration.
Great Backyard Bird Count
Each February, for four days the world comes together to admire birds during the Great Backyard Bird Count. You can spend time in your favourite places observing and counting as many birds as you can find and then report your findings. This helps scientists better understand global bird populations.
Guided Snowshoe at Stribling Point
Join us for a guided snowshoe at Stribling Point Park on St. Joseph Island. The trail is approximately 4km in length and is relatively flat. This outing is open to the public to attend at no cost, but we do encourage you to become a member if you are not one already.

We will have a table a Sault College's Annual Career Fair. If you are interested in the employment opportunties that we will have available this year or have questions about our conservation work in general, stop by and chat with us!
Guided Snowshoe at the Gravel Point Preserve
Join us for a guided snowshoe along the Gravel Point Preserve Hiking Trails! There are about 4km worth of trails that are are most flat with only a couple very small changes in elevation.
Desbarats Christmas Bird Count
Started in 1900, the Christmas Bird Count is North America’s longest-running citizen science project. Counts take place in more than 2,000 localities throughout the western hemisphere. The information collected by thousands of volunteer participants forms one of the world’s largest sets of wildlife survey data. The results are used daily by conservation biologists and naturalists to assess population trends and the distribution of birds, helping to monitor and conserve North America’s bird populations.
Guided Snowshoe and Holiday Social
Assuming there's enough snow for snowshoeing, join us for a guided snowshoe along the Foster Parkland and Walking Trails. Afterwards, we'll have a holiday-themed social in the conservation centre with hot chocolate and cookies.

Join us for a guided hike at our Gravel Point Preserve Hiking Trails. This is an easy to moderate hike, mostly flat with only small changes in elevation and uneven ground. The hike is approximately 4km and it will take approximately two hours, depending on the pace.
Guided Hike at the Foster Parkland and Walking Trails
Come check out the beautiful views from our Foster Parkland and Walking Trails. This 3.5km hiking trail traverses two adjacent nature preserves featuring mixed forest, protected shoreline and portions of a provincially significant wetland known as the Kensington Complex.

Guided Hike at Rock Lake
This is a 5km round trip hike with a moderate rating that provides a stunning view of Rock Lake. Hopefully the fall colours will be in full swing!
Adopt-a-Highway Litter Cleanup
The Central Algoma Land Trust has adopted a 3km stretch of Highway 17 between Smith Road and Kensington Road, just west of Desbarats. We are looking for volunteers to help us clean up the roadside garbage and litter.
Fall Raptor Watch
This will be a stationary bird watching outing where we will keep an eye on the sky for south bound hawks, eagles, falcons, and vultures. There is a possibility of seeing hundreds or thousands of migrating Broad-winged Hawks. A variety of other birds will likely be observed as well, including large numbers of Sandhill Cranes and Blue Jays.
Explore the Thessalon River Delta/Rock Lake Red Oak Conservation Reserve
Explore the Thessalon River Delta/Rock Lake Red Oak Conservation Reserve with us and help us document the plant and wildlife species that are present using iNaturalist. There are no established trails, so participants should be prepared for some bushwhacking and uneven terrain.

This week's Junior Explorers session will focus on learning how to identify animals based on their tracks and signs.
Bat Night
Join the Central Algoma Land Trust for a presentation about local bats. Discover why bats are important to our ecosystems and learn how to identify them. Following the presentation, participants will take a short walk through the Boyer Preserve to listen for bats in flight using handheld bat detectors.
Annual General Meeting
Join the Central Algoma Land Trust for its Annual General Meeting on Sunday, July 27 at 4:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity to learn about the Land Trust’s recent accomplishments, ongoing conservation efforts, and future plans.
