The Central Algoma Land Trust is powered by a dedicated team who are passionate about land conservation. Everyone brings unique skills and expertise to support our mission of protecting and stewarding the natural landscapes of Central Algoma for future generations.
Carter Dorscht - Executive Director
Carter began with the organization in 2016 after graduating from Sault College’s Fish and Wildlife Conservation Technician program and was initially responsible for land stewardship and programming. In 2021, he became the Executive Director. His leadership was recognized in 2023 when he received the Ontario Land Trust Alliance’s Emerging Land Trust Leader Award. Carter is a dedicated naturalist and loves spending his time looking for interesting plants and wildlife, both in the local area and beyond. Carter also teaches part-time at Sault College’s School of Natural Environment.
Corinne Wilkerson - Conservation Manager
Corinne joined the organization in July 2021. As the Land Stewardship Coordinator, she oversees all aspects of the Central Algoma Land Trust nature preserves and manages all stewardship projects, educational programs and engagement initiatives. She holds a B.Sc. in Natural Resources Conservation from the University of British Columbia and a M.Sc. in Biology from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, where she studied the population genetics of Newfoundland Woodland Caribou. An advocate for nature protection and appreciation, Corinne has also lent her insights to various non-profit boards dedicated to science, education and conservation.
Jazmin Gall - Field Technician
Jazmin is a recent graduate from Nipissing University and she holds an Honours Specialization B.Sc in Biology, with a minor in Environmental Science. Awarded for graduating at the top of her class, she also achieved an undergraduate thesis and a certificate, both focusing on conservation and ecology. Passionate about protecting nature and advocating for at-risk species and habitats, Jazmin is excited for this position with the Central Algoma Land Trust and to begin making an impact. She brings with her a variety of field experience from past roles working with other land trust organizations as well as with Ontario Parks.
Jennifer Mann - Office Administrator
Jennifer is a dedicated and resourceful professional who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Guelph. Passionate about sustainability, self-sufficiency, continuous improvement and health, she made the intentional decision to live in an off-grid home near Desbarats Lake. Her way of life reflects her commitment to minimizing her environmental footprint and making meaningful connections with her community. Her education and hands-on experience in technology, operations and project management bring complementary skills to the organization.
Kaitlyn Plastino - Bat Monitoring Technician
Kaitlyn is a graduate student from the University of Manitoba pursuing a master's degree in Natural Resources Management. For her master's thesis, she is partnering with a First Nation in northern British Columbia to devise a plan that incorporates culturally important plants for a roadside revegetation project. She also holds a B.Sc. in Environmental Science from Algoma University where she studied the vocalisation patterns of Connecticut Warblers for her undergraduate honours thesis. Born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Kaitlyn is passionate about protecting the lands and waters of the Algoma region, and looks forward to starting as a Bat Monitoring Technician with the Central Algoma Land Trust this summer. She brings with her a variety of experiences from past roles working with Ontario Parks and the Ornithology Vocalisation Ecology Network (OVEN) lab at Algoma University.
Maggie Cameron - Assistant Field Technician
Maggie is currently a student at Sault College in the Fish & Wildlife Conservation Technician program, with previous experience in a Bachelor's of Environmental Science at Trent University. She is a part of the Mohawk First Nation and strives to integrate traditional knowledges in the field and conservation work. Passionate about endangered species, protecting natural environments, and biodiversity, she looks forward to working with the Central Algoma Land Trust this summer to aid in their conservation efforts.
Johnna Lepore - Assistant Field Technician
Johnna is a recent graduate from the Natural Environment Technician - Conservation and Management program at Sault College. With a diverse background in healthcare, their passion for conservation and sustainability is interconnected with human centric values including food security and disease control. Johnna is currently participating in the Little Forests SSM through the Sault Ste Marie Climate Hub to incorporate green spaces with a diverse selection of native species as a restoration method. With a passion for both learning and protecting the natural environment, they are excited to work with Central Algoma Land Trust and their talented team.
