Our Work

At the Central Algoma Land Trust, we’re dedicated to protecting the natural landscapes, habitats, and biodiversity that make our region unique. Through strategic land conservation, community‑focused stewardship, and educational initiatives, we work to ensure wetlands, forests, shorelines, and wildlife corridors are preserved for current and future generations. Explore the ways we protect land, connect people with nature, and support vibrant ecosystems across Central Algoma.

Protected Areas

The Central Algoma Land Trust has protected almost 500 hectares of ecologically sensitive land within the Central Algoma region. These include wetlands, forests, shorelines, islands, and other significant wildlife habitat. All of our nature preserves have varying categories of public access so that they can be experienced and enjoyed by everyone.

Hiking Trails

The Central Algoma Land Trust offers two public hiking trails that are open year-round. These trails provide visitors with an opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the region, observe local wildlife, and enjoy fresh air and exercise in any season. The trails welcome people of all ages and skill levels, whether they are seeking a peaceful stroll, birdwatching, or a more vigorous hike.

Projects and Programs

In addition to acquiring land for conservation, the Central Algoma Land Trust undertakes projects and programs in the Central Algoma region that support nature and the environment. They include a variety of wildlife monitoring programs and species inventories, ecological corridor planning, restoration projects, and more.

Education and Outreach

The Central Algoma Land Trust’s education and outreach initiatives are designed to foster a deeper understanding of the natural world and inspire lifelong conservation values. Through hands-on learning, outdoor experiences, and accessible educational opportunities, we engage people of all ages in exploring local ecosystems, wildlife, and stewardship. Our programs encourage curiosity, connection to nature, and active participation in protecting the lands and waters we all share.
