Adopt-a-Highway Program

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation’s Adopt-a-Highway program allows individuals and organizations to help keep highways clean by taking responsibility for a designated section of road. Join us for our clean-up days, where we collect waste along our adopted stretch of Highway 17.

About the Program

The Adopt-a-Highway Program is an initiative led by the Ministry of Transportation. It allows for individuals, organizations and groups to adopt a section of provincial highway to help steward and keep clean.

In 2016, we adopted a three kilometre stretch of Highway 17 between Smith Road and Kensington Road, which is just west of Desbarats. Twice a year, we schedule events where volunteers assist our team with litter pickups. This program also helps keep our Black Hole Preserve and Ripple Rock Preserve free of debris as they have frontage along this stretch of the highway.

How to Get Involved

We typically schedule a litter cleanup event every May and September. If you are interested in participating in our next cleanup, please ensure you register as a volunteer.
